Web development is the process of building a website, this involves a number of different processes that all contribute to the overall end project. All elements of the web development process will need to work together as well as fitting together, this means that things like coding should all work together so that your site works together rather than against one another. A web developer can be in charge of a number aspects such as web content management and development, web servers, network security, e-commerce development and web design.

Each business that has a website will have web development team, this will obviously vary from business to business. Large companies will have a larger web development department as they are more likely to sell more products on their website, which therefor makes it more important that the website stays up and running and working as much as possible. Obviously there is always a certain amount of time a month when the server and connections are checked, this down time should be around 45 minutes a month, this is the right amount of time for everything to be checked. You don't really want any longer than 45 minutes as during this time your site won't be available on the internet, so you won't be receiving any traffic and therefore no sales during this time.

Web development is still a fairly new technique that has only really developed with the development of the internet. This has meant that since 1995 when there was merely only 1,000 web development companies there is now well over 40,000 businesses offering web development services and techniques. Due to the huge increase in web development companies it has meant that the original businesses have had to drop their prices massively, this has been an advantage to a number of people. For example smaller businesses are now able to offer web development services, allowing them to compete with the larger businesses; something that they wouldn't have been able to do before. It is also a huge advantage to the customer as they are able to shop around and find the best deal, as well as finding the right company that are offering the technique's that are most suited and useful to their product and business.

As a web developer they have to not only go through the variety of development processes and techniques but they also have to take into account a number of security issues. This includes looking into data entry errors that could accrue, this involves looking into the forms that are filled out, as well as any output features that are go through this process and the encryption codes. Scripts within a website also need to be secured so that no-one that isn't granted permission to access them can't, this will stop anyone trying to gain access to personal information such as; passwords, emails, addresses and credit card numbers.
